HOW I CAN HELP YOU
If you or someone you care about are struggling with personal, marital, or parenting problems, then I can probably help. By utilizing the best clinical methods, combined with an easy-going but honest approach, I help individuals, couples, parents, and families find peace in their lives - despite mental and behavioral problems, relationship and family problems, addictions, and heartbreaking loss and trauma.
If you have never been to counseling before, you may be wondering how it all works. To give you a basic idea of what type of help is available I am providing the following “menu” of services. This list is not comprehensive but gives a good general overview of what Lambert Counseling Services is able to provide. Please contact me if you have any questions about which service or services would be best suited for your needs.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
One-on-one meetings between a client and counselor. These meetings are intended to provide guidance, support, and feedback to the client to help them solve personal problems. Possible issues include depression, anger management, coping with grief and loss, recovering from past abuse, and so on. Sessions last one hour and are generally held once per week or every other week.
COUPLE’S COUNSELING
Meetings with a client, their spouse/significant other, and the counselor. These meetings are intended to provide guidance, support, and feedback to the couple to help them resolve issues that specifically affect the quality of their marriage. Possible issues include communication problems, a lack of emotional intimacy, forgiveness, sexual problems, and so on. Sessions last one hour and are generally held once per week or every other week.
FAMILY COUNSELING
Meetings with several members of a family and the counselor. These meetings are intended to provide guidance, support, and feedback to the family to help them resolve issues that affect the overall functioning of the family as a whole. Possible issues include struggles with blending step-families, the loss of a family member, adjusting to a move or other major life change, unhealthy dynamics such as abuse, and so on. Sessions last one hour and are generally held once per week or every other week.
ADDICTION RECOVERY COUNSELING
Individual, couple’s, and/or family counseling designed to help the addict (and if necessary, members of their family) learn about the dynamics of addiction and how to create and sustain recovery. Often requires that the client also participate in a 12-step group such as Alcoholics Anonymous or its equivalent. Possible addictions include drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, and so on. Please note that addiction is a progressive illness and more intensive treatments may be necessary at the outset or become necessary during the course of treatment.
PARENTING SKILLS TRAINING
Individual or marriage counseling designed solely to teach parents how to properly address and respond to the behavioral problems of their children. Modality used is the highly effective Nurtured Heart Approach, of which Jay is a certified Advanced Trainer.
